Allotment news January 2011
Following the sucess of our first year, staff & children are looking forward to another season of growing crops.
We asked the children in Honey Bees Room what vegetables they enjoyed growing & eating, and which new crop they would like to grow. The children have decided we will plant carrots, peas, lettuces, onions and lots of tomatoes.
New crops for this year will be green beans & some herbs with a few different
varieties of potatoes to take us through the year. The children did not like the beetroot & parsnips we grew and so we have decided to try cabbages & garlic.
At this time of the year there is not much going on at the allotments and so during our visits staff will be helping children to plan and draw maps of what they would like to do with their plot & to remind the children how we keep safe when visiting the allotment.
We look forward to the coming months and warmer weather, when staff and children will be busy preparing our plot and planting our seeds & bulbs.
